Do you have an opinion about what Canada’s assisted dying laws should look like?

In February 2015 we blogged here about the Supreme Court of Canada decision to legalize physician-assisted suicide. The decision was suspended for one year so that Parliament could draft appropriate changes to the law. Part of the process of drafting such complicated laws has been consultations with a variety of stakeholders.

There is an External Panel on Options for a Legislative Response to Carter v. Canada to carry out these consultations. The Panel is speaking directly with a variety of groups but has also created an online consultation so that any interested party can contribute. The online consultation presents various scenarios, such as a person with a terminal illness and a person with a physical disability, to help ascertain your views on when physician-assisted suicide should be legal and the scope (e.g. whether it should extend to a teenager).

If you would like to share your views on physician-assisted suicide, click here to participate in the federal online consultation process and here to participate in the online Ontario consultation process.
